From the Joanna Briggs Institute, JBI COnNECT (Clinical Online Network of Evidence for Care and Therapeutics) is an online web-based facility that provides users with resources and tools to search, appraise, summarise, embed, utilise and evaluate evidence-based information. JBI COnNECT is designed to meet the needs of service providers, health professionals and consumers with the skills and resources to enhance care by connecting the best available international evidence to the point-of-care. JBI COnNECT is an online gateway to a collection of evidence-based resources and tools designed to assist in the clinical decision-making process.

You can access this resource from the Quicklinks area of the e-Library or directly at http://www.elib.scot.nhs.uk/portal/elib/security/JBIReferer.aspx using your Athens username and password.

If you are promoting this resource to your users, we would suggest that you particularly target nurses, midwives and AHP's as these are the primary audiences for JBI.

Now that you know OvidSP is coming soon, we'd like to introduce some of the
features that will make searching with Ovid an easier, faster, more
intuitive experience. We've simplified the search process so that OvidSP is
a powerful tool for novice *or* advanced users. Dynamic Search tabs allow
you to search content using a preferred search mode. With OvidSP,
simultaneous searching across all content types-books, journals, and
databases-is more streamlined and simpler than ever! And in our Basic Search
tab, Natural Language Processing (NLP) supports easy, free text searching!
Search tabs include:
- *Basic Search -* Just enter free text and go! Basic Search uses NLP
to make it easy for any user to enter a search term or question and quickly
get results. There's no need for special syntax!

- *Find Citation - *Only know part of a bibliographic citation? Here,
you can enter values for specific fields, such as DOIs (digital object
identifiers) and PubMed IDs (where available) to find a specific citation.

- *Subject Search - *Search using natural language and specific tools,
including map term, tree, permuted index, scope notes, explode, subheadings,
classification codes, and more.

- *Search Fields* - This tab also supports natural language searching.
Choose this tab to search all available database fields, including
Abstracts, Author Name, ISSN, and much more.

- *Ovid "Classic" *- Still want traditional Ovid syntax? Ideal for
advanced searchers, this tab supports Boolean search terms, including AND,
OR, NOT, the asterisk (*) wildcard, as well as the current supported dollar
($) wildcard character.
Here's a preview screenshot of the Search tabs. Please keep in mind that,
depending on your Ovid subscription, all Search tabs may not appear in the
interface.

Copyright and electronic resources

After the copyright event on the 14th June there was some interest in what the rules were for electronic resources.

I have looked in to this issue in a bit more detail and the general conclusions seem to be that ebooks and ejournals have their own licences, which must be adhered to. The terms and conditions of these licences are generally available from publisher websites. In cases of aggregators who provide access to a range of journals from different publishers, you should refer to the policies outlined by each individual publisher. These may vary so if you are in doubt it is always preferable to refer to each individual publisher licence.

Therefore in terms of printing or sending articles by email to end-users you should only really be doing this if it is allowed within the terms of the licence. It is also worth remembering that most of our electronic resources require an Athens username and password so you can
always refer users to this point of access.

In the absence of any licence it is suggested that you treat and electronic resource like it was a printed item, therefore you could implement the rules as outlined by our CLA licence.

So the general rule would be to read the publisher's licence.
