Change to the Nursing Ebsco collection

From the beginning of 2009, the Ebsco collection Nursing & Allied Health will be replaced by CINAHL with full text.

CINAHL will full text provides a more comprehensive collection of titles.

Ebsco CINAHL support

Ebsco support are providing some additional support for CINAHL.

This site will be linked from the main support pages or you can access it directly at:

Particular items of note are the CINAHL user guide and the Transition to CINAHL on EBSCOhost help sheet both available from the Documentation tab.

CINAHL on EBSCOhost online training

CINAHL on EBSCOhost

EBSCO Publishing are offering free online training sessions to NHS Scotland users.

This training will last up to 1 hour and cover the following topics:

• Basic and advanced search modes
• Unqualified search; CINAHL subject headings and subheadings
• Using Explode and Major
• Field codes
• Limiters
• Result page – Narrow and Search Options
• Search history
• Saved searches, Search and Journal Alerts
• Delivery of results – Print, Email, Save, Export
• My EBSCOhost – Personal Folder

There will be opportunity to ask questions throughout the sessions and at the end.

Your trainer for these sessions will be Emily Harker, previously a medical librarian working in NHS England, who has now joined EBSCO as the Implementation Specialist for UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Proquest online training

Proquest are offering online training sessions to NHS Scotland users.

The training session will cover content, functions, and features of, as well as tips for using, ProQuest Medical Library, ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source and ProQuest Psychology Journals on the ProQuest interface. It will also provide information on the new features included in ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source: Study Paths and Evidence Based Nursing from the The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The Agenda will be as follows: Content overview by Database New Features & Content Basic & Advanced Searching ProQuest® Smart Search Study Paths Browsing of Publications including key titles such as THE LANCET, JAMA, Rehabilitation Nursing , Journal of Practical Nursing, Journal of Allied Health , Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology and The Journal of Special Education. My Research: Area where user can save searches and search results from their session. There will be an opportunities to ask Questions throughout the session, and also at the end. Full contact details of your trainer will be provided and also information on where to obtain Training Resources and how to contact our Technical Support.

Cochrane Library training

A half-day training session focussing on the Cochrane Library, provided by Wiley, which will be taking place in November.

This event is aimed at information and library staff, researchers and medical staff.

Description:

The Cochrane Library is a collection of databases that contain high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making.

In addition to Cochrane reviews, The Cochrane Library provides other sources of reliable information, from other systematic review abstracts, technology assessments, economic evaluations, and individual clinical trials - all the current evidence in one single environment.

During our session, we will take you through:

  • The aims and goals of the Cochrane Collaboration.

  • How to browse and search systematic reviews and protocols.

  • Why systematic reviews are an increasingly important source of evidence on the effects of healthcare.


Agenda:

  • New features / functionality added to The Cochrane Library.

  • Browsing and searching through systematic reviews and protocols.

  • Q & A period to ask questions based on your experience with using our database.

  • Hands on practice.


The training session will last approximately 2-3 hours.
